Spanish recipe - Sangria
Close window to return to previous page

Sangria is one of those traditional 'tastes of Spain' - very simple to make, deceptively easy to drink and is great chilled and served in a terracotta Jarro Rioja (as supplied by us in various sizes up to 2 litres.)

Method for 1.5 litres (double up for greater quantities)
Pour a 75cl bottle of  robust Spanish red wine (Valencia, La Mancha, Utiel Requena) into a jug or container
Wash and slice oranges, lemons (unwaxed and organic if possible) and apples (you can also add peaches or nectarines) and add to the wine.
Pour in a small glass of brandy (preferably Spanish) or a suitable 'fruity' liqueur (eg Cointreau)
Add a little sugar, and stir the whole mixture well.
Cover and put in fridge for at least a few hours (up to 3 days is fine!)
Before serving add 75cl chilled lemonade and a handful of ice cubes.  Stir well and serve.
(Dont forget to eat the alcohol-soaked fruit!)
